Brenton is a partner in the firm who represents clients in matters involving environmental law and litigation, real estate litigation, and commercial litigation in state and federal courts.

He has been involved in some of Connecticut’s most significant environmental cases, including cases involving issues of property contamination, personal liability relating to environmental damage, litigation involving the Connecticut Property Transfer Act, the defense of clients involved in state and federal regulatory enforcement actions, Superfund and related federal environmental litigation, state and federal cost recovery actions and landlord-tenant-related environmental litigation. He has worked on behalf of property owners, landlords, tenants, and developers to address issues involving oil spills, releases of industrial chemicals into the subsurface, issues involving surface water flooding, potable well contamination, allegations involving wrongful tree clearing, claims involving business interruption due to environmental impact, environmental insurance claims and disputes, and many other issues.

Brenton also represents clients in disputes related to issues involving commercial real estate, such as commercial landlord-tenant disputes, disputes between buyers and sellers of real estate, commercial eviction actions, property tax assessment challenges, boundary disputes, actions involving disputes over the title to real estate, and disputes involving commercial real estate that also implicate environmental and regulatory concerns.

He has broad additional experience in the field of commercial litigation and has represented clients in areas as diverse as securities litigation, adverse bankruptcy proceedings, business and contractual disputes, employment disputes, and probate litigation.

In the transactional and regulatory context, Brenton has successfully represented many manufacturing companies, landlords, real estate developers, current/former tenants, and property owners. He advises these same clients on matters involving Brownfield redevelopment, regulatory compliance, and the identification and pursuit of business opportunities involving environmentally impacted real estate.

He has helped clients form, dissolve, acquire and divest various business entities. He regularly works with clients on the acquisition and divestiture of commercial real estate, advises clients on matters involving environmental law and regulatory compliance, in addition to due diligence concerns.

Brenton has participated in matters in front of Federal and State Courts in both Connecticut and New York, various state and federal regulatory and administrative agencies, the Financial Industry Regulatory association (FINRA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
